If you’re a Muppets fan, and of course you are, then your heart will no doubt have rung with a million joyous “Wocka Wockas!” when news broke that The Muppets, newly zeitgeist-resplendent after two very successful movies, were going back on TV.
In primetime. In an The Office-style mockumentary that would chart the life, loves and professional travails of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo and the gang.
But then your heart would have gone “Oh no!” when it emerged that Kermit and Miss Piggy, a power celebrity couple of many years standing – to be fair, I have my doubts that Kermit ever really bought into any kind of romance with Miss Piggy but who am I to say? – had broken up.
GASP! I know!
But fear not, in these fabulous new promos from ABC, it looks like Miss Piggy at least is rebounding nicely, putting her best glam porcine moves on one Nathan Fillion (Castle) who is unaware he is being objectified by the newly-single pig.
In the two other promos, Kerry Washington (Scandal) ends up briefly in the middle of the romantic aftermath being taking a “not so sad” selfie with Kermit, and Patricia Heaton (The Middle) does her best to work out what the Swedish Chef is preparing for her.
It’s all very warm, fun – well apart from messy post-break-up tension which is, um, not so much fun – and well Muppet-ational!
And leaves me even more excited to see what life with The Muppets in 2015 is all about.
The Muppets premieres on ABC on 22 September 2015.
