Watching the two current Paddington films, based on the justifiably much-loved books by Michael Bond, is like getting a thousand warm hugs at all once and feeling like the world is wonderful, not because it isn’t a searing dumpster fire of s**t but precisely because, in the face of all that terrible reality, it’s still possible to find love, community and gorgeously warmhearted sense of belonging.
Paddington and Paddington 2 were delightful in every possible way, and if the first trailer for film three, Paddington in Peru is any guide, all that delight and joy, and the odd marmalade sandwich, is about get a heart-stirringly lovely third instalment.
Honestly, it’s near impossible to watch the trailer and not feel like you need to be in a cinema right now, spending time with Paddington and his adoptive family, the Browns, knowing all the while that no matter how bad things get, that everything will come out all right in the end.
Paddington in Peru releases 8 November 2024 in UK and 1 January 2025 in Australia.
