Kermit the Frog has always the Muppet balm for a troubled soul.
And it’s not exaggerating things to say that with COVID-19 troubling a great many souls in some fairly big ways, we need someone as kind, insightful, calm and sweet as Kermit (voiced since 2017 by Matt Vogel) now more than ever.
Thankfully, Kermit has called our anguished calls and, straight from self-isolation deep in the swamps he is currently calling home, delivered to us a rendition of “The Rainbow Connection” (music and lyrics by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher), which first rose to our prominence and into our hearts when The Muppet Movie was released in 1979.
It is an achingly beautiful, hopeful song that assures that you should be listening to “the lovers, the dreamers and me”, all of whom know that while things might be bleak now, they will get better.
Released as part of the #DisneyMagicMoments series, the song is the perfect panacea for a world in which hope seems elusive and where we need the Kermits amongst us (few and far between though they may be) to put a hand on our shoulder, and sing to us that “one day we’ll find it, the rainbow connection …”
You feel better already don’t you?
