SNAPSHOT
Eleven-year-old dreamer Elio (voiced by Yonas Kibreab) is artistic, creative, and an avid indoorsman who finds it hard to fit in. Meanwhile, Mom Olga, who runs a top-secret military project, is working to decode a strange alien signal from outer space. But it’s Elio who makes contact, gets beamed into space and is subsequently mistaken for an intergalactic Ambassador for Earth in this original animated adventure. Pixar’s Elio is co-directed by three animation filmmakers: Adrian Molina (co-director on Pixar’s Coco), Madeline Sharafian (director of the Burrow Sparkshort), and Domee Shi (director of Turning Red and Bao short). Screenplay credits have not been finalised yet. Produced by Mary Alice Drumm. Made by Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, CA. (courtesy First Showing)

OMG Pixar how do you delight with stunningly playful animation and snappy humour and then when my guard is down, reach into my heart and pummel it into feeling everything?

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

And I love it, each and every time it happens.

Admittedly, I only have two minutes or so of heavily edited Elio shenanigans to go on, but it honestly looks delightful in every way you want an animated film to be, and especially one made by the venerable Pixar.

Am I at the cinema waiting for a ticket months earlier? Yes. Yes I am, and I heavily suspect you should be too.

Elio opens in Australia on 19 June and in UK and U.S. on 20 June.
