Doug Jones is an actor mostly known for portraying inhuman creatures, usually via heavy make-up and/or visual effects in films and television series. He’s also the go-to colossus in the movies of monster king Guillermo del Toro, first appearing in Mimic and later portraying both the Faun and the Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth, Abe Sapien (as well as two other significant characters) in the original Hellboy franchise, and Guillermo Del Toro’s, The Shape of Water.(synopsis via Laughing Squid)

You may not know what Doug Jones looks like exactly but trust me when I say you would likely have seen him acting.

A talented actor of 31 years standing who is currently making quite the emotionally resonant splash in Star Trek: Discovery, which recently its third season run, Jones is one of those hidden actors who is often integral to the success of the major movie or TV show he is a part.

Quite how much of an impression he has made in the entertainment industry becomes clear when you watch a video like the one compiled by video editor Eric Thigpen which, as Laughing Squid explains, “recount[s] his long career of playing fantastic masked creatures in both film and television [with] Jones speaks honestly about his beginnings as a mime, his mid-career in commercials, and his fateful meeting of director Guillermo del Toro who changed Jones’ career forever.”

It is a fitting tribute to a man who is far from done yet and will no doubt to enrich our lives still further in the years to come.
