Following the last living humans who find themselves tasked with rebuilding civilization from scratch, Mulligan features a star-studded cast of comedic actors. Along with producer Fey who voices scientist and single mom Dr. Farrah Braun, Nat Faxon will expand his ventures into voice acting as the titular hero. Additionally, Chrissy Teigen as Suwan, Sam Richardson as the last living historian Simon Prioleau, Dana Carvey as the scheming self-appointed Vice President Senator Cartwright LaMarr, and Phil LaMarr as the sole alien prisoner on Earth named Axatrax, comprise the central cast of characters in Mulligan. We are used to the earth going up in apocalyptic flames.

And because even when things go to crap, we like to know that they can be fixed and rebuilt, and naturally being the uplifting story addicts that we are, we want the people doing the rebuilding to be bright, inisghtful, capable people who will have all the answers society needs to begin again.

Alas, sometimes we get someone like Mulligan who saves the world and unhappily for the survivors of in this case a thwarted alien invasion, has no clue one what to do in the aftermath.

Making him President doesn’t seem so bright now doesn’t it, huh?

With a promising American Dad vibe going for it and an appealing sense of the cleverly-realised ridiculous, Mulligan looks like it’s going to be a riot of fun.

For viewers at least; not so much for the survivors stuck with Mulligan …

Mulligan crashlands like a downed alien mothership onto Netflix on 12 May.
