One very good thing about a lifetime spent with Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang is that you have a treasure house of special memories stored away.

Without much effort, I can recall how I used to gather up pecan nuts from across the street in my primary school (grade school) and sell to the local general store to buy second-hand Peanuts paperback collections.

Or the time a close friend gave me a small plastic Charlie Brown figurine just because he knew I liked Peanuts a lot (I still have it; yeah, I’m kinda sentimental that way, both with Peanuts and my friends.)

Or how I’d sure I was sitting in the best house in the lounge room anytime there was a TV special on the schedule, most especially A Charlie Brown Christmas, which first went to air in the year I was born, 1965 (December 9, to be exact if you’re playing Wikipedia bingo).

Launched last Thursday at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California with some very special guests in attendance like Charles Schulz’s widow Jean, son Craig, and A Charlie Brown Christmas Executive Producer Lee Mendelson, the stamps are intended to honour both a beloved iconic comic strip and a TV special that, as Lance Ulanoff notes at Mashable, gave us some very special memories:

“Each stamp will feature an iconic image from the show, including Charlie Brown bringing home the world’s saddest and most famous Christmas tree, Pig Pen’s dirty snowman and Snoopy’s over-decorated dog house. There are also non-denominational “forever” stamps, which means that they can be used to mail First Class letters no matter what the postal rate.”

The stamps, which you can pre-order now, were released to honour both the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas and the 65th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip, which is TODAY.

Happy birthday Charlie Brown! Here’s to friendship, not quite getting there but giving it your all anyway, and the Little Red-Haired Girl you love.

And thank you for all the wonderful memories, and all the precious ones yet to come.
