From the director of Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie comes a hilariously fun beach adventure for the whole family! When timid Jersey crab Armen (Michael Cera) meets bold tourist sea crab Ramona (Keke Palmer), it causes shell-shocking tension in the community. But when the duo are swept away by a storm, they embark on an epic journey to find home. Their courage unites their families paving the way for great summers to come. Under the Boardwalk is directed by animation filmmaker David Soren, director of the movies Turbo and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie previously, also working as a storyboard artist in animation for years. The screenplay is written by Lorene Scafaria and David Soren, from a story by Lorene Scafaria & David Dobkin. Animated by DNEG Animation. Produced by David Dobkin, Allison Gardner, Dagan Potter. I love stories about characters finding freedom and release from anxieties and fears or simply a misunderstood sense of self.

Under the Boardwalk, full of vibrant and a lovely sense of fun, has a protagonist in Armen who seems to embody all three and when circumstances conspire to send him on a huge adventure into the scary unknown, he has to really go beyond what he’s used to to get home which, I suspect, is going to feel all kinds of different after his epic journey far out of his comfort zone.

Under the Boardwalk opens in U.S. cinemas on 27 October with VOD release to follow 7 November.
