The Book of Boba Fett, a thrilling Star Wars adventure, finds legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand navigating the Galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate. (official synopsis via cbr.com)

There is a brand new power in town and it ain’t Jabba the Hutt.

Well, clearly not because he – SPOILERS! – so into the vacuum of the Tatooine underworld steps Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) who first made a name for himself, an infamous one at that, in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, released in 1980.

After making a sensational return in season two of The Mandalorian, with Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) by his side, Fett has landed his own sweet gig on Disney+ in which he goes to the planet on which Star Wars first began to establish a regime of respect and free speech.

Quite how that will go down with Jabba’s fractious onetime captains remains to be seen – the trailer suggests there will be blood spilt and opinions of the decidedly violent kind exchanged – and will no doubt lend The Book of Boba Fett an appealingly brooding film noir look and sensibility.

Which as CBR.com observes means it will fit nicely with its parent show.

“The plot may still be up in the air, but visually, the show will borrow a lot from The Mandalorian. Not only will it feature some of the same creatives, with Robert Rodriguez taking on even more directing duties along with executive producing, but the Volume technology [employed by The Mandalorian] will also be used to bring the world of the show to life.

Rodriguez, for his part, is promising that the series will deliver and then some …

“Wait until you see what’s coming. It’s going to blow your mind. That’s all I can say. I can talk it up all I want because I know it over-delivers. It way over-delivers. People are going to be so pumped when they see it.” (cbr.com)

I am usually wary of hype but in this instance, with the impressive brilliance of The Mandalorian to lend this breathless claim considerable weight, I’m excited for what is coming our way in under two months.

The Book of Boba Fett premieres on 29 December on Disney+
