The eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell reaches epic proportions when both God and the Devil are sent to Earth – in the bodies of chunky house cats. Exploding Kittens is an animated series showrun by creators Shane Kosakowski (You’re the Worst, Teenage Bounty Hunters) and Matthew Inman (founder of the Exploding Kittens card game and The Oatmeal web comics). It’s written by Matthew Inman and Elan Lee. With episodes directed by animation filmmaker Eddie Rosas (director on the series Mulligan and Trash Truck, assistant director on The Simpsons, who also worked on The Iron Giant as an animator in one of his first gigs). If you’ve ever thought cats were a beguiling mix of cute and scary, and even confirmed cat lovers like yours truly think this, then here’s Exploding Kittens to confirm every supposition you’ve ever had.

It honestly looks absolutely bonkers hilarious and if you ever wondered if there was any other way to do the apocalypse beyond the myriad ones that have made it to screen already, then prepare to be surprised by the fact that there remains some truly weird ways to end the world.

The imagination at work is truly awe inspiring as is the glorious off-kilter sense of humour and it looks like this will be one animated series to remember!

Exploding Kittens premieres on Netflix on 12 July.
