Tim Nydell of Saturday Morning Rewind pays wonderful tribute to legendary voice actress Verna Felton (1890-1966), whose distinctive timbre was featured in such classic Disney films as Dumbo, Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and The Jungle Book. Felton also portrayed the original Pearl Slaghoople (Wilma Flintstone’s mother) with delicious abandon. (synopsis (c) Laughing Squid)

Voice actors are the unsung heroes of the entertainment industry.

Never seen but always heard, they give life, vitality and a vibrant sense of narrative-driving self to a host of animated characters and of the foremost exponents of this much under-appreciated art was Disney stalwart Verna Felton.

Appearing in a host of Disney’s most iconic films such Lady and the Tramp, Dumbo and Sleeping Beauty, Felton was also active in radio and live-action films, a talented woman with a gift for bringing her characters to memorable life.

Tim Nydell of Saturday Morning Rewind, does a brilliant job of celebrating Felton’s considerable legacy, reminding us as he does so that we need to treasure the voice actors who give us so much pleasure because without them the films and TV shows we love and cherish would be all the poorer.
