SNAPSHOT
In Loot, billionaire Molly Novak (Maya Rudolph) has a dream life, complete with private jets, a sprawling mansion and a gigayacht — anything her heart desires. But when her husband of 20 years betrays her, she spirals publicly, becoming fuel for tabloid fodder. She’s reaching rock bottom when she learns, to her surprise, that she has a charity foundation run by the no-nonsense Sofia Salinas (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez), who pleads with Molly to stop generating bad press. With her devoted assistant Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster) by her side, and with the help of Sofia and team — including mild-mannered accountant Arthur (Nat Faxon) and her optimistic, pop-culture-loving cousin Howard (Ron Funches) — Molly embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Giving back to others might be what she needs to get back to herself. (courtesy AppleTV+)Focused mainly on her charity work, Molly has sworn off any new relationships with men and embarks on a wellness journey. Fabulously single but not particularly independent, Molly keeps her trusty assistant Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster) by her side. He diligently caters to her every whim … and occasionally feeds her a kale smoothie spiked with gin. (courtesy Hollywood Reporter (c) AppleTV+)
Loot season 1 was one of those shows that was just a joy!
Smartly-written, funny as hell and with brilliantly on-point performances, it was proof that the sitcom has tons of life in yet, especially when you have someone as entertainingly talented as Maya Rudolph leading the pack.
Equal parts oblivious to the reality of the world and cut to the very core of who she is, Rudolph’s character Molly managed to grow enough to make us care but not so much that we stopped laughing at how gloriously out of touch she is.
And yes, she might have seen god or the truth or whatever the hell her epiphany was, but she’s still gleefully self-centred and more fond of gin than kale (isn’t everyone?) and that means way more laughs ahead as Molly tries to figure out what a more meaningful life looks like.
Loot season 2 debuts episodes one and two on 3 April with new episodes released weekly until 29 May.
