SNAPSHOT
The Only Murders in the Building season 3 news indicates the murder mystery will center around Paul Rudd’s Ben Glenroy. Introduced as a new character after the time jump in the season 2 finale, Ben Glenroy is an actor who works with Oliver on his Broadway return. On opening night, Ben dies onstage after exchanging words with Charles. The two clearly have a tense dynamic, one that will be explored as Charles, Mabel, and Oliver investigate the death of Ben and start up their podcast once again. (courtesy Screenrant)
Murder is usually not the sort of thing to give you the warm and fuzzies.
Real crime podcasts, a slew of dark British and Scandinavian crime shows and an entire genre of hard-hitting novels suggest, quite rightly, that it’s really quite terrible, requiring justice to be served and evildoers to be brought to account.
And yet the ever more popular “Cosy crime” genre would suggest it is possible to strike back against murder most foul and also feel good about doing it, Exhibit A over the last few years being Only Murders in the Building, which warmheartedly and with great humour, drawing on the inestimable talents of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, has winningly combined murder solving, podcasting and some engagingly comedic human fallibility to create one of the most popular streaming shows out there.
Season 3 is coming up hard and while there title of the show seems to be have twisted a little for the latest adventure, the trailer would suggest we’re about to see some more cosy crime solving, all backdropped against the lives of three people kin New York City who want to matter to each other, their city and their neighbours, and to be connected to them all in ways that matter.
If that involves solving more murders, then so be it!
Murders in the Building season 3 debuts on Hulu / Disney+ on 8 August.
