SNAPSHOT
Comic book store owner Stuart Bloom (starring Kevin Sussman) is tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke. Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we’ve come to know and love from The Big Bang Theory. As the title implies, things don’t go well. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is a new streaming comedy series, from Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, that’s created, written, and executive produced by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady. Featuring some episodes directed by comedy filmmaker Kyle Newacheck (director of Game Over Man, Murder Mystery, What We Do in the Shadows, Happy Gilmore 2). Made by WB TV and HBO Max. Executive produced by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, Bill Prady, Kyle Newacheck. (courtesy First Showing)

I am a sucker for a story set in the multiverse, even the ones with all kinds of war and apocalypse and generally the very lesser angels of human nature.

Maybe it’s the capacity for endless imaginative storytelling? The capacity it gives writers to re-invent well-known characters in really cool ways? Or simply that’s it just fun? Whatever the deal, it’s cool to have fun in the multiverse, especially if it’s from the comfort and safety of your own non-apocalyptic reality (though frankly that’s up for debate in this one right now).

So I love the idea of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, especially since it’s part of The Big Bang Theory family, and while the trailer doesn’t have me completely convinced this will be a ton of fun to romp through, I am more than happy to give it a shot.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe premieres on HBO max on 23 July.
