*WINTER IS COMING … AND SPOILERS … AND WHITE WALKERS*
SNAPSHOT
Following the shocking developments at the conclusion of Season 5, including Jon Snow’s bloody fate at the hands of Castle Black mutineers, Daenerys’ near-demise at the fighting pits of Meereen, and Cersei’s public humiliation in the streets of King’s Landing, survivors from all parts of Westeros and Essos regroup to press forward, inexorably, towards their uncertain individual fates. Familiar faces will forge new alliances to bolster their strategic chances at survival, while new characters will emerge to challenge the balance of power in the east, west, north and south.” (official synopsis via Den of Geek)
Season 6 of HBO’s ratings juggernaut is almost upon us, and with it come BIG questions …
- Is Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) dead, sort of dead, can-be-revived-from-the-dead dead, or Princess Bride dead?
- Will Arya recover her sight or has she been well-and-truly Vallar margoulis-ed?
- Is Stannis still going to try and become king from beyond the grave? (Probably not but then Mysandre is a pretty determined lady.)
- Will Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), daughter Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free), Trystane (Toby Sebastian) and Bronn (Jerome Flynn) find a safe port in a storm at King’s Landing?
- Is Cersei (Lena Headey) going to be forced to do the High Sparrow’s (Jonathan Pryce) walk of shame again?
- And just where did Drogon the dragon take Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) after he swooped in and helped her escape the attack by the Sons of the Harpy? (Bummer about leaving Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel), Daario (Michiel Huisman), Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and Jorah (Iain Glen) behind but hey, what can you do?)
Yep there is a lot going on but as Sir Davos (Liam Cunningham) rather sagely and gravely observes in the trailer below, “The real battle is between the living and the dead”.
And anyone who watched the terrifying takedown and then deathly resurrection of those Free Folk at HardHome by the Night King in “HardHome” will testify to the fact that it’s going to be fearsome battle indeed, one that will overshadow anything else that has come before it.
Be afraid, be very afraid, and leave your petty rivalries behind. Far worse lies in store that slighted reputations or scrabbles over slivers of land, or yes even the Iron Throne itself.
Game of Thrones returns 24 April on HBO (with funky new opening credits that now come in 360/VR version).
