Shrinking follows a grieving therapist named Jimmy (played by Jason Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his own training & ethics, he makes huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives… including his own. Shrinking is a streaming series created and written by Emmy Award winners Bill Lawrence & Brett Goldstein, and actor Jason Segel. Being honest about life is never easy.
It’s such a shit show and hellscape at times that it’s way easier to tell ourselves all kinds of cosy self-serving stories that reinforce all kinds of happy narratives … but what happens when life no longer gives us the luxury of doing that?
Shrinking is what happens.
Or, at least this uniformly funny, heartfelt and brilliantly well-written show documents what happens when our world collapses and we need a village to help us make our way out of the morass.
Good thing if some of them are shrinks, right? Well, maybe …
Shrinking S3 premieres episode one on 28 January with the full 11-episode season ending 8 April.
