Two of my favourite things in the entire wonderful vastness of the pop culture are Star Wars, which is doing pretty brisk business at the moment with The Force Awakens, and Calvin & Hobbes, a legendary comic strip, long since retired about a young boy and his very special, wise tiger friend.
So I was mighty pleased, nay damn ecstatic – a dangerous thing to have happen when you’re on the train commuting, a weird between-work-and-home state of being where smiling, let alone laughter is forbidden, no matter the circumstance – to find that enormously talented, self-described “Story artist at walt disney animation studios, author and most importantly, a geek” Brian Kesinger has brought these two wonderful sets of characters together.
And the results are every bit as whimsical, playful, joyous and just plain fun as you might expect, and very much of the moment, his latest series (featured here) drawing inspiration from J. J. Abram’s blockbuster-successful The Force Awakens.
It evokes all the childlike sense of wonder and glee that I have always felt watching the Star Wars films and reading the comic strips of Calvin and Hobbes – it’s the perfect mix and it won’t surprise you to learn that Brian Kesinger is receiving quite a bit of attention on the interwebs at the moment.
It’s thoroughly deserved and you must, without a second’s delay, follow this clever guy and take in some more of his marvellous art.
