SNAPSHOT
While Season 1 followed Cassian’s reluctant journey from cynical nobody to revolutionary volunteer, the long-awaited conclusion in Andor season 2 will see the characters and their relationships intensify as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound. Rife with political intrigue, danger, tension, and high stakes, the thriller is a prequel to Rogue One, about a heroic band of rebels who steal the plans to the Empire’s weapon of mass destruction — the Death Star — setting the stage for the original 1977 film, A New Hope. Andor is created by Tony Gilroy (writer of The Devil’s Advocate, Armageddon, Bait, Proof of Life, The Bourne Series, Michael Clayton, Duplicity, State of Play, The Great Wall, Rogue One, Beirut). Season 2 is written by Tony Gilroy, Beau Willimon, Dan Gilroy, Tom Bissell. With episodes directed by Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, Alonso Ruizpalacios. Executive produced by Tony Gilroy, Kathleen Kennedy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna, Luke Hull, and John Gilroy. (courtesy First Showing)

We all know where Andor: A Star Wars Story ends up.

The prequel to a prequel (Rogue One) to the movie that started it all (A New Hope), Andor comes generously weighted down with a ton of narrative details to neatly dovetail with and enhance by its very existence.

If you had been Tony Gilroy who created the superlatively good and deservedly well-reviewed series, you may have been more than a little intimidated by having to tick so many boxes in a show that many people existed simply to tell us how we got from there to here, but whatever he felt, he’s clearly decided not let all that expectation get to them and he’s fashioned a show that whatever it’s supposed to lead to, does a damn fine job of standing up on its own two narrative legs.

Excitingly we have a whole second and final season of Andor awaiting us this year where we’ll see Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) come into his destiny, the Rebellion become a THING, and political intrigue is around in compelling abundance.

A new featurette gives us a sneak peek at the 12-episode second season which debuts its first three episodes on 22 April with episodes then released weekly until 13 May.

And Star Wars Explained does a brilliant job of setting the scene further …
