SNAPSHOT
The Peanuts gang are anxious about starting at a new school in the Fall, inspiring Lucy to start her own school instead, but teaching isn’t as easy as it sounds. ‘Lucy’s School’ is a love letter to teachers, and an appreciation of the impact a teacher can have on a child. It explores the fear of change, and shows how Lucy, supported by her friends, faces and overcomes her own fears. (courtesy Bleeding Cool)
Peanuts specials are one of those truly lovely things that makes the world go round.
Every season from Christmas to Halloween and beyond seems to have an animated Peanuts special that speaks to its spirit and its substance, and now, the treasure trove that includes A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965), It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966), It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown (1974) and Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown (1975), is getting a welcome addition that honours the important role educators play in all our lives.
Snoopy Presents Lucy’s School – yes, it appears Snoopy has overtaken Charlie Brown when it comes to titling – takes us into a typically ill-thought Lucy decision to start her own school, a gloriously funny reflection of Linus’s older sister’s trenchant self-belief that she can do no wrong.
It’s honestly one of the reasons we love her so much, and while naturally, events won’t play out even remotely close to what Lucy envisages, you have to admire her chutzpah and tenacity.
Quite whether the rest of the gang do looks to be up for debate if the trailer is any guide but suffice to say, Lucy’s School will deliver up the usual Peanuts animated special mix of comedy, thoughtfulness and heartfelt sentiment when it premieres on Apple TV+ on 12 August.
THE SNOOPY SHOW (season 2)
If that isn’t enough Peanuts for you, and honestly is there such a thing (the answer, quite clearly, is no), we have the second half of the second season of The Snoopy Show in the offing, the first half premiering back in March 2022. Each episode has three seven-minute segments, all of which offer surreal flights of imagination, a Snoopy stock in trade, whimsy and some lovely heartfelt silliness. which is, frankly, just what the never-ending pandemic doctor ordered.
