The Strange New Worlds team is already hyping up Season Two. Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman promises that it will be “bigger and better” than Season One, while his fellow co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers describes it as “Season One on steroids.” Mount teases that Season Two will take “bigger swings” and explore even more genres than Season One did. “When you have a new story every week or a new planet every week, you can also change the mode and the tone,” he told Collider. “We’ve been really pushing the boundaries with that in the second season, and seeing how many different kinds of genres and things we can get away with, and being able to invite many different kinds of directors with many different kinds of styles. It’s just been a joy.” (courtesy Esquire)

With the unending avalanche of series streaming options coming down upon us at any given moment, it’s increasingly hard for any show to really make its presence felt.

But Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which debuted on 5 May 2022, managed it with galactic aplomb, returning us to the episodic adventures that gave the franchise its started almost 60 years ago, and doing it with inventive, emotionally resonant storylines, finely-cut and richly-realised characters and a genuine sense of gee-whiz fun.

That sense of fun looks like it’s making a return in season two with a promised crossover episode with Star Trek: Lower Decks, and increased focus on a number of key characters with interesting stories to tell.

While anyone who watched the superlative first season won’t take much convincing to tune in for its successor, Paramount+ has released a slew of gorgeously vivid, lusciously colourful character posters and a profile teaser to up the anticipation levels and get us ready to join Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Number One (Rebecca Romjin) and Spock (Ethan Peck) and the rest of the amazing crew in just two months’ time.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season two starts streaming on Paramount+ on 15 June.
