The Andor series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Star Wars: Andor stars Diego Luna, who is reprising his Rogue One role as Cassian Andor, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrara, Adria Arjona (6 Underground), Denise Gough (The Kid Who Would Be King), Kyle Soller (101 Dalmatian Street), Stellan Skarsgård (Chernobyl) and Robert Emms (His Dark Materials). The first heady, tremulous steps toward revolution are always presented as something both intoxicatingly inspiring and nervewracking in almost equal measure, with a side dose of resolute bravery to fire further the engine of rebellion.

All of that is on resonantly gritty display in the teaser trailer for Andor which shows us the stirring of rebellion against the Empire, as the seeds of mumbled discontent slowly take on form and function and become the full-flight challenging of the autocratic social order that we witness in the original three movies (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) from what is now known as the Skywalker Saga.

The series is also the prequel to Rogue One, a standalone Star Wars film which showed the Rebels got the plans to the Death Star in the first place, and whose tone and feel look to have replicated in a series that is going to take a deep dive into what it means to stand up for what you believe in and the heavy cost that often entails.

Released as part of Star Wars Celebration 2022, which runs from 26-29 May, the teaser trailer for Andor promises to fill in more of the history leading up to the three iconic middle chapters of the Skywalker Saga, offering a Star Wars we’ve never seen but which will add immeasurably to the already established parts of the canon.

Andor begins streaming on Disney Plus on 31 August.
