Something most definitely this way comes in Neil Blomkamp’s latest short film The Firebase.
And even in the midst of the hellish nightmare that is the Vietnam War, where napalm is tripping whole forests bare and the enemy seemingly lurks behind every tree and in every village, the creature that stalks the characters in this atmospheric effort is terrifying indeed.
It is freakishly brutal and nasty, with Bleeding Cool nailing it when they noted that it’s “Predator meets Apocalypse Now“, with a lot lot of bleak subtext and political machinations and more thrown in.
It accomplishes a great deal in just 26 minutes and will have you intrigued and compelled to watch right until the end.
