Travel from freezing poles to tropical rainforests to meet nature’s most captivating giants, who prove being big comes with enormous challenges. Narrated by Tom Hiddleston, the 10-episode series, premiering across five weeks, features the gray whale, the elephant seal, the giant otter, the gorilla, the hippo, the brown bear, the ostrich, the orangutan, the tiger and the polar bear. Nature documentaries are absolutely my jam.

I could watch them day in and day out if there weren’t a lot of movies, books and scripted streaming options also clamouring for my limited attention – no, I’m not easily distracted; there’s just not enough time in the day for me to squeeze everything in, alas – but as it is, they have to join the queue like everything else.

One program that’s jumped fairly close to the front of the queue is Big Beasts, a gargantuan companion to AppleTV+’s Tiny World series, which goes large where the latter program went small and which showcases some of the can’t miss animals of the world, often simply because of their sheer size and presence.

It’s a gloriously good natural world we have around us, and one we need to fight hard for, and if we ever need ammunition to convince naysayers why that’s worth doing, simply reach for programs like this.
