Get ready for a brand new adventure. [Star Wars: Skeleton Crew] follows four kids who end up on an adventure to make their way home after being lost in the galaxy following a discovery they make on their home planet. “At its core it’s a story about wanting to explore a world that’s bigger than your own… I think that’s something that people can relate to, no matter how old you are.” Skeleton Crew is a series created and showrun by filmmakers Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. The first season is also written by Ford & Watts, with two episodes written by Myung Joh Wesner. Featuring episodes directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home), David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story, The Green Knight, Peter Pan & Wendy), the Daniels (Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert of Everything Everywhere All At Once), Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank, Beef), Bryce Dallas Howard (Dads, The Mandalorian), and Lee Isaac Chung (Minari, Twisters). Produced by Susan McNamara and John Bartnicki. Executive produced by Christopher Ford, Jon Watts, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson, along with co-executive producers Chris Buongiorno, Karen Gilchrist, Carrie Beck. Much like Luke Skywalker did way back when in A New Hope (1977), the four kids at the heart of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew want off their planet and a door opened to all kinds of adventure.

Of course, as with Luke, be careful what you wish for might be an injunction worth heeding with the series, set, according to Wikipedia, in the same time period as The Mandalorian, involving a lot of very dangerous adventuring as these accidental galactic sojourners have to come of age very fast and without much, if any ceremony.

Channelling the same spirit and energy as Star Trek: Prodigy, Skeleton Crew, the trailer for which landed at the recent D23 Disney fan event, looks like it will be a ton of meaningful fun, and while there may be danger, you get the feeling they’ll land on their feet and live to adventure another day.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew releases its eight-episode season on Disney+ on 3 December.
