Sitcoms are supposed to be funny are, and a great many are, delivering up some escapist laughs that help the dead weight of life not to be feel quite so heavy.
The really great ones though don’t just deliver up laughs, they give us some insight, however small but meaningful into the human condition, leaving us feeling not just lightened by energising comedy but feeling a little more like we can face anything life throws at us.
Upload, which is set rather creatively in a virtual afterlife where, if you have the money, you can spend eternity in a digital paradise, is both funny and thoughtful, and throughout season one and season two, has commented on everything from toxic relationships to the great divide between rich and poor and to the need we all have for connection of the deepest kind.
It’s funny and insightful, and now with a third season in the offing, it looks like it might be getting both epic and gearing up to muse on whether love eternal, as well as life eternal, might actually be possible?
We’ll find out when Upload season three debuts its first two episodes on Prime Video on 20 October.
