My lord humanity you really can’t catch a break now can you?

If it’s not virulent pandemics, or zombie hordes, alien invasions or ecological catastrophe, it’s something else.

In the case in the new apocalyptic comic series from Titan Comics, Surface Tension which is written and drawn by rising star Jay Gunn, the “something else” is a disease called “sea sickness” which though it sounds like the sort of affliction that you get onboard a cruise ship or a yacht out on the harbour, is in fact a nasty piece of work that turns 99% of people into some sort of aquatic zombie that instinctively rushes off into the sea never to be seen again.

As you can see by the poster (above) these guys are not exactly going to win America’s Top Model anytime soon.

The publishers, Titan Comics have rightly described this end of times terrifying as hell series thus:

“This is a beautifully drawn ecological horror by rising star Jay Gunn which has been described as The Walking Dead, meets Studio Ghibli and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Surface Tension will be available to order from March Previews. This is a really special title, and key to our second wave of creator-owned books.” (source: Major Spoilers)

There are survivors of course but they are small in number and restricted to an island, a sanctuary where cut off from the world they feel they are safe from this disease which has changed humanity into something utterly unrecognisable.

But what if the “sea sickness” monsters decided to come back onto land? What then?

Ah you’ll have to read Jay Gunn‘s 5-part comic book miniseries to find out when it releases in May 2015.

Till then, forget being afraid of swimming because of Jaws … you have 7 billion other mutated swimming nightmares to worry about now!
