SNAPSHOT
The Last of Us is an upcoming American post-apocalyptic drama television series created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO. Based on the 2013 video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog, the series will follow Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States. It will feature Gabriel Luna as Joel’s younger brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge as resistance leader Marlene, and Anna Torv as Joel’s smuggler partner Tess. (courtesy and (c) Wikipedia)

After what feels like far too many years of The Walking Dead and the declining quality of Fear the Walking Dead, which started out as such a refreshing point of difference to its parent show before ending up just as creatively barren, I thought myself done with the zombie genre which as Gizmodo sagely observes simply won’t give up.

If there’s a genre that won’t die, it’s survivors doing their best (and sometimes their worst) amid a zombie apocalypse.

They do, however, go on to point out that The Last of Us, based on a long-running series of Playstation games, does however feel different and while I have not played the game, the trailer would suggest for HBO Max’s series would suggest it’s more harrowing and thoughtful than many of its genremates.

We don’t have long to wait until we know if that’s the case – the series debuts on 15 January – but until then, meet the cast who will bringing “particularly compelling take on … [zombie genre] story” to life … or is that death? Time will tell …
