Get ready to snap your fingers! The Addams Family is back on the big screen in the first animated comedy about the kookiest family on the block. Funny, outlandish, and completely iconic, the Addams Family redefines what it means to be a good neighbor. (synopsis via Coming Soon)
I adore The Addams Family.
I discovered them back when I was a square peg kid trying to fit in the round hold of my Christian childhood, a time when I knew deep down I wasn’t the clean cut, obey the all the maintstream rules kinda guy but had no way to clarify or express it.
The Addams Family, created by American cartoonist Charles Addams as a satirical take on the ideal twentieth-century family, were one of the first times I realised you could be perfectly happy NOT being a resolutely-obedient, card-carrying member of the accepted norm.
They were revelatory and fun, and I followed them through the cartoons, the whimsically-wacky Hanna-Barbera iterations and the live action movies, all the while growing in my willingness to give the great, big finger to good old banal convention.
So, yes, I will be first in line to see this new animated take on America’s first family of weird, honouring the people and gloriously goofy things that made me the man I am today.
The Addams Family opens Australia on 10 October, USA on 11 October and UK on 25 October.
