So here’s a question for you.
What would you do if you found yourself in a new country with a very new baby, more cardboard boxes that you can count and whole lot of time within the newly arrived at four walls of your home?
Would you (a) start the mother of all bonfires (b) given the local recycling plant a month’s worth of material to process all at once or (c) re-created scenes from famous movies using these cardboard boxes, other household objects and starring your lovely new family? (options (a) and (b) should involve the cardboard boxes only but I bet you guessed that already right?)
If you picked (c) then you would likely be Lilly, Leon and (baby) Orson of cardboardboxoffice.com who explain their joyously original artistic mission this way:
“Welcome to Cardboard Box Office – our homemade creations of some of your favorite movie scenes built from some of our favorite domestic junk.
The project began after finding that we had accumulated both a lot of cardboard boxes (due to moving to a new country) and a baby (due to giving birth). With our social lives drastically altered we decided to find a way to make some of those housebound weekends a little more fun.
The costumes, props, and sets in Cardboard Box Office are created entirely out of everyday household items, toys, cardboard, and three individuals slowly losing their sanity. Enjoy!”
Their obviously powerful imaginations have conjured up a growing collection of wonderfully re-created scenes from movies as diverse as The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, Home Alone, Jaws and Star Wars with a new one added each week via follower submissions.
It is the most inspiring use of household objects I have ever seen and as unique a homage to cinema as you’re like to find anywhere.
