In Disney Animation’s Wish, Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen. Wish is co-directed by Oscar-winning animation filmmaker Chris Buck (director on Tarzan, Surf’s Up, Frozen, Frozen II, and other Frozen-related spin-offs) & story artist Fawn Veerasunthorn (making her directorial debut after working as head of story on Raya and the Last Dragon). The screenplay is written by Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore, along with Chris Buck. Produced by Peter Del Vecho and co-produced by Juan Pablo Reyes. Made by Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank. Is there anything as lovely as losing yourself in carefully curated wonder of a Disney animated film.

Even though they often deal with some fairly weighty subject matter, they do so in a way that feel magical and sometimes even goofy – let’s hear it for idiosyncratic supporting characters! – and end in a happy ever after that reassures you that while life might get grim at times, it can end in a way that makes everything feel better.

The fact that that’s not always the case in real life makes them even more attractive and escapistly wonderful.

Wish is the latest animated gem from Disney and it looks like it’s going to tick absolutely all the right boxes and gift us, once again, with some magic and wonder just when we need it the most.

Wish releases in cinemas in U.S. on 22 November and in Australia on 26 December.
