“Today is going to be THE. BEST. DAY. EVER!” Meet the Cat in the Hat you don’t know! In the whimsical tradition of Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the Hat comes to the big screen in his animated theatrical feature film debut, an all-new, epic adventure with an edge, where mischief, magic and mayhem reign supreme. Doing what he does best, the Cat—as voiced by Bill Hader—spreads joy to kids in his hilarious, signature and singularly irreverent way, transporting them and audiences on a fantastical journey through a world they’ve never seen before. The Cat in the Hat is co-directed by animation filmmakers Alessandro Carloni (director of Kung Fu Panda 3) & Erica Rivinoja (writer on Trolls, The Addams Family, Clone High). It’s also written by Carloni & Rivinoja, adapted from the iconic Dr. Seuss book first published in 1957. Produced by Daniela Mazzucato and Jared Stern. Made by Warner Bros Animation. Like many millions of people, I have long loved the books of Theodor Seuss Geisel, otherwise known as Dr Seuss.
His stories and indeed his characters are sweet but mischievously anarchic and there’s that gorgeous rhyming, the cadence of which is like a fuse for fun and a balm for the harried soul (yes, even when I was kid).
So, it’s cool to see an adaptation of his work that seems to convey everything the books did and with a little something more that should make it lots of fun to watch, for kids and adults alike.
At one point in the trailer, one of the exasperated characters says “Cat in the Hat – you have gone too far!”; likely he has and we will see just how far that is when The Cat in the Hat releases in the US on 27 February 2026 and 19 March in Australia.
