Star Trek: Picard will tell the next story of Picard’s life, taking place after Star Trek: Next Generation. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Star Trek: Discovery creator Alex Kurtzman revealed in March that it will be “a very different show from Discovery.” He also mentioned that the series will be a “very thoughtful, psychological portrait in a lot of ways … Things have changed for [Picard] and changed him in some ways, and yet he is so deeply and fundamentally still Picard.” (synopsis (c) Coming Soon)

Jean-Luc is back!

The onetime legendary Captain of the Enterprise, whose adventrues along with his brave and intrepid crew were told in Star Trek: Next Generation, is returning in a new series Star Trek: Picard.

Played with a brilliant mix of understatement and bravura by Patrick Stewart, Picard is one of the most memorable characters to have emerged from the Star Trek universe and his return, along with the likes of Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) is incredibly exciting.

But where you might wonder has Picard been for the last twenty years? Has he simply been tending his beloved vineyard in France or has far more than that taken place?

The latter you won’t be surprised to learn with Geekspin spilling all the details about a comic book series and novel that will fill in all the blanks.

“The first prequel that will hit the shelves is IDW’s Star Trek: Picard – Countdown, a three-issue comic book series about a single mission that changed Picard’s life forever. Written by Mike Johnson and Star Trek: Picard supervising producer Kirsten Beyer, the series will launch in November and will run through January 2020.

“Then in February 2020, Galley Books will release Una McCormack’s
Star Trek: The Last Best Hope, a novel that will lead directly into Star Trek: Picard and introduce new characters appearing in the show. McCormack is the author of eight previous Star Trek novels, including The Lotus Flower, Hollow Men, and the New York Times bestsellers The Fall: The Crimson Shadow, Enigma Tales, and The Way to the Stars.”

Both the comic book and the novel are intended to get us good and ready for Picard to march boldly back into our lives sometime in 2020 on CBS All Access and Amazon Prime Video internationally.
