It’s “Groundhog Day” all over again as Jeep brand debuts a Big Game spot starring Bill Murray (in his first-ever national television commercial). But this time reliving the same day over and over again is always a new adventure when you’re driving the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Jeep. There’s only one. (synopsis via Laughing Squid)
As classic films go, Groundhog Day (1993) is right up with their best.
The story of one man’s (Phil Connors played by Bill Murray) attempt to better himself while caught in the same day over and over again, the film, starring Bill Murray is witty, clever. visually inventive and redemptive.
And given the time of story it is which is about redepemtion, in no real need of a sequel … until now.
Jeep have gone and gifted us with the follow-up to Groundhog Day we never knew we needed in which Connors’ days become filled with an altogether different passion than his 1993 love Rita Hanson (Andie MacDowell) …
“As in the film, Connors relives Groundhog Day over and over while on location in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania again until he gets it right. Rather than his original goal of getting Rita Hanson (Andie McDowell) to fall in love with him, however, Connors falls in love with a bright orange hybrid 2020 Jeep Gladiator and is more than happy to spend the rest of his days driving around with the titular groundhog in tow. Even good old Ned Ryerson (Stephen Tobolowsky) made a small cameo – bing!” ((c) Laughing Squid)
