There is without a doubt a group of book readers out there who will not countenance anyone turning a literary tale they love into a movie or TV/streaming show and will certainly not admit to the adaptation being any good.
This reviewer and inveterate book reader since childhood is certainly not one of them; while I adore the books I read, and while yes, adaptations are always quite different, it excites me to see how one storyteller has taken a story not their own and shaped it into an altogether new form.
Sure, characters I love and plot points I consider vital might be deleted, and others put in their place, and that’s always something I agree with BUT it’s always fascinating to see a story change and grow in something close to what you enjoyed but not exactly the same.
One show that has absolutely knocked it out of the park is Silo, based on the series of the same name by Hugh Howey, the first season of which was dystopian storytelling at its finest, and yes, while things were undoubtedly altered, the result was a very fine narrative indeed.
So, hopes are high for the second season, and judging by the atmospheric new trailer, they are most likely to be met.
Silo S2 debuts its 15 November (finishing with episode on 17 January 2025) on 15 November.
