I Am Groot season 1 was a brief but luminously sweet and funny continuation of the story of one of the most beloved characters from Guardians of the Galaxy.
Focusing on the kind of childhood moments peculiar to any kid Groot’s age, the shorts were absolutely delightful, full of giddy childhood glee, some bad decision-making (borne of the fact that he, after all, a kid and kids don’t yet know enough to avoid certain pitfalls of being alive) and whimsy aplenty.
As diversionary viewing goes, they were wonderful, delivering a nice escape from the day-to-day in packages that were long to entertain but which could be sandwiched within other activities and lift them too.
Thankfully five more shorts are on the way, and life just looked a whole more technicolour, extraterrestrially whimsical.
I Am Groot debuts on Disney+ on 6 September.
