I have hugely fond memories of watching the first My Big Fat Greek Wedding way back in 2002 when I was first in Calgary alone in late October, and a little bored and very cold – it was 6C and falling fast in the late darkening afternoon – I decided that watching a movie would be a fun way to finish a lot of walking around this lovely city.
I had a ball with it; it was exactly the kind of warm, silly, fun, clever movie I never knew I needed and it’s warmed my soul just as the cinema was warming the rest of me up.
It’s funny – I had a wonderful time seeing Calgary, including seeing moose the next day at Calgary Zoo in negative 6C, but I will always remember how watching this film made me feel a lot less alone and buoyed my spirits ready for the rest of my trip around the gorgeous sights of Alberta.
So bring on this second of two sequels – winter may well be lingering in Sydney then and I can relive the warmth and happiness that this delightful series always seems to provide.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 opens in Australia on 7 September and U.S. on 8 September.
