I love music.
It moves me in so many different, profoundly deep ways and it acts as a soundtrack to my life, sometimes making sense of stuff I’m going through and other times simply giving me some diversion from the annoying bits and pieces of life.
Like commuting; if it wasn’t for all the music I listen to on the train and bus, and the fact that I have habituated myself to reading and listening to songs simultaneously (not my favourite thing but needs must, and all that), I would be driven mad by the inanity and noisy thoughtlessness of my fellow commuters.
But more than that, I wouldn’t be able to lose myself in an aural landscape which feels like an escape, a place tp fold myself into when life gets too much, which can happen when I’m commuting or when insomnia has me up at 3 am and everything feels a little too darkly introspective.
Having songs to listen to makes life feel not so bleak or impenetrable and buoys me when spirits flag and honestly who can ask for more than that?
It’s been a great year music-wise, with many discoveries not coming from music blogs, though I love them still but via going down music rabbit holes on YouTube which is a great place to lose myself when the need for new music beckons.
