Produced by Sony Pictures Television, [The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh] mixes comedy and mystery as Pradeep family members retell the often conflicting stories of their first few months in Pittsburgh during an interrogation. Those tales include clashes with their Penguins-jersey-wearing (Ethan Suplee, My Name is Earl) and Christian-proselytizing (Carnegie Mellon University grad Megan Hilty, Smash) Pittsburgh neighbors. The Pradeep family is made up of realist matriarch Sudha (Sindhu Vee), patriarch dreamer Mahesh (Naveen Andrews, Lost), romantic daughter Bhanu (Sahana Srinivasan), favorite son Kamal (Arjun Sriram) and optimistic son Vinod (Ashwin Sakthivel). Pete Holmes (Crashing) and Romy Rosemont (Big Sky) appear as special guest stars. (courtesy TribLIVE)
You have to be brave to take a leap into the great unknown but even more so when you are leaving a world you know intimately and well, and heading to a whole other country which does not always fully appreciate the wondrous diversity it possesses within its borders.
But brave is what the Pradeeps are, and their story, loosely based on the life of executive producer Vijay Patel (Black-ish), is now coming to us in a series that looks thoughtfully funny, contrasting the aspiration and hope of new immigrants with the stark reality of their new lives.
It’s looks very funny and cleverly meaningful too, with their next door neighbours providing an hilarious but insightful contrast to the Pradeeps who look like they discover what it is to move cultures while holding fast too to that which you, you.
The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh debuts all eight episodes on Prime Video on 17 October.
