With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.

Who is in the cast of Heartstopper Season 2?
Newly minted boyfriends Charlie and Nick are ready to explore their relationship further in Season 2. “Charlie goes on more of a journey this season. His story’s a bit more mature,” says Locke. The rest of the Season 1 squad will also be back to brush up against even more Heartstopper moments of queer joy and discovery, including Finney, Gao, Brown, Edgell, Sebastian Croft (Ben), Tobie Donovan (Isaac), Rhea Norwood (Imogen), Cormac Hyde-Corrin (Harry) and Jenny Walser (Tori). Akinade, Chetna Pandya (Coach Singh), Alan Turkington (Mr. Lange) and Olivia Colman (as Nick’s mum, Sarah) will also return as the adults shepherding these young teens toward who they’re meant to be.

Heartstopper was rightly one of the standout shows of 2022.

Based on the superlatively good and emotionally resonant graphic novels of Alice Oseman, Heartstopper took us into the world of Charlie and Nick, and their wonderfully eclectic and warmhearted group of queer friends, and reminded us that even in a world of bigotry, bullying and hatred, that love, the muscular kind that adores passionately and deeply and bows to no one, wins out.

It might seem like a fairytale – and it was sign and awww-worthy in ways that made this gay reviewer’s heart very glad; well, me and countless queer people of a certain age who longed for this kind of out love story in our closeted youth – that couldn’t possible survive in the real world, but the truth is, it increasingly is, and seeing it celebrated on screen has been an absolute joy.

And more effervescent joy awaits us in what Netflix’s Tudum site wonderfully describes as “a treat sweeter than Nick’s bubblegum milkshake” with Heartstopper season 2 dropping on Netflix on 3 August and a rather delightful teaser trailer to announce its imminent arrival.

Thankfully too a third season is on the way, as are volumes five and six of the graphic novels, which means we’ll have plenty more opportunities to delight in the joy that is Charlie and Nick and the beautiful truth that love really is love.
