Benny wakes up seeing that it’s February 8, meaning that it’s his birthday. But he’s not in the mood and shuns it, until the Minions wake him up saying “happy birthday!”, Benny sees that the whole place is in a birthday party style. The Minions take him to his cake with one of them giving Benny a crown while another gives him a present that sprayed confetti on his face, he’s then hit by darts when Tony is blowing a balloon, and gets hit by a bat that Hal is doing pinata. Hal hits a fireworks box with one flying into the cake replacing the original regular candle, Benny tries to blow it but it explodes the cake, it went everywhere.The alarm sounds and Benny wakes up, only to find out that it’s his birthday again, much to his dismay … (courtesy Despicable Me Wiki)
Benny is not in the mood for his birthday.
That much is clear within seconds of Benny’s Birthday, and he goes out of his way to fight all the goodwill and celebrating coming his way, determined that all the joy won’t touch him one bit.
The kicker in all his birthday avoidance? It looks like 8 February is going to keep repeating until, Groundhog Day-style, he leans into all the celebrating and fun.
The short film is an absolute joy to watch, and even you are a birthday junkie like me and can’t imagine not wanting to soak all the festivities up with gusto, there’s a lot to love and laugh at in a birthday series of events that Benny, god bless his cranky, cake-hating socks, won’t soon forget.
