In Foundation, when revolutionary Dr. Hari Seldon predicts the impending fall of the Empire, he and a band of loyal followers venture to the far reaches of the galaxy to establish The Foundation in an attempt to rebuild and preserve the future of civilization. Enraged by Hari’s claims, the ruling Cleons — a long line of emperor clones — fear their grasp on the galaxy may be weakening as they’re forced to reckon with the potential reality of losing their legacy forever. This monumental journey chronicles the stories of four crucial individuals transcending space and time as they overcome deadly crises, shifting loyalties, and complicated relationships that will ultimately determine the fate of humanity.
Based on the books that inspired films such as Star Wars, the 10-episode series stars Emmy Award nominees Jared Harris (Chernobyl) as Hari Seldon and Lee Pace (Halt and Catch Fire) as Brother Day along with Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick; Leah Harvey as Salvor Hardin; Laura Birn as Demerzel; Terrence Mann as Brother Dusk; Cassian Bilton as Brother Dawn; and Alfred Enoch as Raych. The fate of humanity once again hangs in the balance.
You may be tempted to think “been there, done that, got the close to apocalyptic T-shirt” and shrug it off but given the story of Foundation from the mighty storytelling hands of Isaac Asimov, you might want to consider given this ambitious piece of epic epic sci-fi a go.
While only a teaser, the trailer does promise a brilliantly compelling, sumptuously involving narrative that more than hints at the fact that people will often do little to avert their doom if there is short-term advantage still to be gained.
Sound like any current situation of which you might be familiar?
As much a deep dive exploration of the human condition as it is a story of power and altruism coming head to head, Foundation looks to be worth your time, even if it is running out …
Foundation premieres on Apple TV+ on 24 September 2021.
