SNAPSHOT
Ralph Breaks the Internet leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted expansive and thrilling world of the internet – which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet – the netizens – to help navigate the way, including a website entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head of algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site “BuzzzTube.” (synopsis via Coming Soon)
We’ve all been there and done that, Internet-wise.
You begin entering a query into the search of your choice, and almost immediately it begins frenetically second-guessing you, throwing up a bewildering array of options that may or, usually, may not match you’re looking for.
Sure, it’s trying to be helpful and fast but really dude? (Yes, I am anthropomorphising the search function; if Disney can do it then so can I.) Take a chill pill and wait the nanosecond until I’ve finished typing.
That scenario is just one of the many explored in Disney’s upcoming film Ralph Breaks the Internet, and it is, as you might expect, realised perfectly and hilariously.
Disney released it especially for Internet Day (29 October, marking the first time in 1969 that two computers in different locations spoke to each other), which has been celebrated since 2005, and it’s a hoot of a way to mark things, auguring well for what looks like a very funny movie to come.
Ralph Breaks the Internet opens 21 November USA, 30 November UK and 26 December Australia.
