The colorful postapocalyptic series begins at an isolated home in Yellowstone and follows Gus and Jepperd as they make their way to Colorado. The second season eventually brings the duo back to Yellowstone, but only for a short time: The finale ends with Gus, Jepperd, Wendy, and Bear setting out for icy Alaska in search of Gus’ mother, Birdie (Amy Seimetz) — and that’s where Season 3 picks up.

As Birdie tries to uncover the mysterious origins of the deadly Sick, Dr. Singh (Adeel Akhtar) joins Gus, Jepperd, and company on their trek to Alaska, but he might hold his own dangerous beliefs about Gus and his role in reversing the virus.

Meanwhile, a new threat emerges in the form of Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao), who sets the tone for her cruelty in the trailer, stating, “Undoing hybrids isn’t enough, we have to eradicate them.” In addition, Zhang’s daughter Rosie (Kelly Marie Tran), and the ferocious Wolf Boys will join her efforts to restart human birth, viewing Gus as the solution to their plans. With the clock to find answers running out, alliances are tested and destinies intertwine, all leading to a thrilling climax that’ll determine the fate of humanity and hybrids. “There has to be a way to save everyone, there has to,” Gus says in the Season 3 trailer … (courtesy Netflix)

Somehow, and I blame the sheer massive torrent of streaming content that seems to flood unceasingly into our digital devices – on the surface a good thing, right? More stuff! But really, it almost feels like too much – I haven’t watched Sweet Tooth season two.

And that’s after really liking season one a lot and even going the two graphic novels upon which the whole series is built.

Still, that will be rectified this coming week and weekend and then I’ll be in the boxseat ready for the final season to fall right into my lap, and honestly like the rest of the series it looms like a bigotry-fighting gem.

While I’m sure the fact that the first season dropped in the second major year of the pandemic was a coincidence, it reminded us that assumption and prejudice have no useful place in our world and should be dispensed in favour of everything Sweet Tooth wonderfully and affectingly preaches.

Sweet Tooth season 3 drops on Netflix on 6 June.
