Two terrifically tantalising TV trailers: 1899 and Poker Face

Yes, we have potential viewing schedules of existing and up-and-coming shows that are the televisual equivalent of To Be Read piles so high and tottering that they will likely fall and crush us one day.

True, we need spreadsheets to keep track of what we’re watching/long to watch and we have to treat TV viewing/streaming no longer as a relaxing nighttime activity but as a full-time strategical undertaking that requires wit, tenacity and immense staying power.

And yet … AND YET … every time a new trailer lands, all we can think about is “we MUST watch this!” and we immediately set about working out which meal we will miss or how much sleep we will give up to make sure the trailer becomes a season or series watched and we can tick one more exciting show off a list that will never EVER get shorter.

Sure, it’s a little bit stressful but it’s a whole lot EXCITING to have some rich and cleverly enthralling storytelling at our fingertips and whatever has to go to make watching the following two shows happen, will happen because they honestly look too good to miss.

In the year 1899, a migrant steamship leaves London and heads west to leave the old continent. In the trailer, which can be viewed above, we see the ship receive a mysterious distress call from another migrant ship, the Prometheus, that appears to be floating adrift on the open sea. What was supposed to be a simple 7-day journey to New York City suddenly turns into a rescue mission – but what they find on board ends up turning their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare. 1899 drops on Netflix on 17 November.
