SNAPSHOT
“So much of the season is about Max. We open the season with her struggling with [her grief] and her trying to navigate that, and Max, on the other hand, is also someone who doesn’t easily open up to people. So a lot of what she’s dealing with, she’s struggling with internally, she’s shut a lot of people out, which makes it even that much more difficult.“Things aren’t looking much better elsewhere in Hawkins. While Lucas has scored a spot on the basketball team, the Duffers teased that he, Mike, and Dustin run into trouble in their friendship as they navigate high school and dive into new activities. But Hawkins, as a whole, is still reeling from the mall fire at the end of Season 3, and as indicated by a shot of a body bag in the trailer, the deaths haven’t stopped coming. (Matt Duffer, IGN)
Let’s be honest – Stranger Things has always been pretty creepy.
But in seasons one to three, the horror was as much about the existential hell that the young kids of Hawkins, Indiana, whom we’ve come to know and love – Eleven/Jane Hopper (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink), Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton), Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) – as the deeply disturbing nightmarishness of the Upside Down.
But in the eagerly-awaited, much delayed season 4, the first major trailer for which has just dropped, things got very dark, very quickly, confirming reports that this would be the season, full of feature-length episodes, where the proverbial very much gets real.
You could argue it’s been pretty damn real before this, but my lord, this trailer is INTENSE, with a corpse-like Big Bad making its presence felt, everyone split and the deeply unsettling pronouncement being made that war is coming. (IGN has an exclusive detailed breakdown of the trailer with the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers.)
Super, so nothing to worry about then? *shudder*
Stranger Things season 4 will release in two parts – Volume 1 kicks off on 27 May with Volume 2 commencing 1 July.
Looks fabulous. Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been waiting for the new season FOREVER, just like everyone else, LOL.
It’s been forever! I can’t wait until the end of May – bring it on!
