‘This Halloween, secrets will be unlocked…’ The beloved and award-winning BBC comedy Ghosts arrives on the big screen this Halloween. Ghosts‘ stars, writers and creators Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond are all back, along with Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe, in this feature length family adventure. Ghosts: The Possession of Button House movie is directed by British TV director Simon Hynd, director on the series Ghosts, Motherland, Mammoth, Can You Keep a Secret?, Death Valley recently. The screenplay is written by the original core: Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Laurence Rickard, Jim Howick, Ben Willbond. Produced by Andy Brunskill and Alison Carpenter. My life has been gloriously and happily full of British sitcoms and one of the more recent stellar examples of the genre is Ghosts, the OG of a series which now has American and Australian versions, to name just two.
While it’s fun to see this sitcom become a globally franchised phenomenon, the OG is the best in this case (though I do now have a real soft spot for the more emotionally obvious but still fun US version) and it’s exciting to have another instalment in the show, especially when it ended in 2023 with one of the most perfectly delivered finales you could hope for.
Thankfully the trailer seems to promise a story worth returning the series for and I can only hope that the movie finds its way to Australia because although they say you can never go back, I know a gaggle of hilarious ghosts who might disagree.
Ghosts: The Possession of Button House opens 23 October in UK; no Australian dates available at this time.
