Swapped is a buddy comedy about a small woodland creature (voiced by Academy Award winner Michael B. Jordan) and a majestic bird (voiced by Juno Temple). When these two natural sworn enemies of The Valley suddenly swap bodies, they must team up, while walking in each other’s feathers and fur, to survive the wildest adventure of their lives. Swapped is directed by the American animation filmmaker Nathan Greno, director of Disney’s Tangled movie previously and its short sequel Tangled Ever After; plus work as a storyboard artist on many other projects. The screenplay is written by John Whittington and Christian Magalhaes & Robert Snow. From a story by John Whittington, Adam Karp, Christian Magalhaes & Robert Snow, Nathan Greno. With music from Siddhartha Khosla. Produced by John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, & Mary Ellen Bauder Andrews. Made by Skydance Animation. (courtesy First Showing)
This looks like fun!
And honestly what with stress at work by the metric ton, war in the Middle East, climate change, and a possible alien invasion in the offing (not beyond the realms of possibility given what’s going on here now), I, and I daresay a whole lot of others, need FUN!
And the good thing about Swapped is that it looks like it comes with a lot of heart, a love letter to opposites being forced to walk in the other shoes, or really inhabit their bodies – same, same but different? Okay, REALLY different – and become friends and maybe even a community.
Empathy seems to be the order of the day in this film and along with some fun, the world could do with a lot of that too; let’s hope it’s not too distant a hope and possibility.
Swapped releases on Netflix on 1 May.
