Invasion follows an alien invasion through different perspectives around the world. In Season 3, those perspectives collide for the first time, as all the main characters are brought together to work as a team on a critical mission to infiltrate the alien mothership. The ultimate apex aliens have finally emerged, rapidly spreading their deadly tendrils across the entire planet. It will take all heroes working together, using their experience and expertise, to save the human species. New relationships are formed, old relationships are challenged and even shattered, as an international cast of characters must become a team before it’s too late. Invasion is a series created by and written by Simon Kinberg (director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The 355 / producer / writer on many X-Men movies) and David Weil (creator of Hunters / director of a few Solos episodes). The writers and directors for season 3 have not been announced completely yet. Executive produced by series creators Simon Kinberg and David Weil, plus Audrey Chon, David Witz, Alik Sakharov, Dan Dietz, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell. Inspired by H.G. Wells’ classic novel “War of the Worlds” first published in 1898. (courtesy First Showing)

You might think if you’ve seen one alien invasion story, you’ve seen them all.

But not all apocalyptic alien stories are created equal, with some so bad you are almost cheering for the aliens to win because goddammit they deserve it at this point.

But Invasion has proven over two enthrallingly immersive and highly nuanced seasons to be a cut above many other takes on this much-trodden narrative path, a brilliant series that took its time to build and build the tension and even now is content to be as meditative as it is action driven.

It’s focused hard on the humanity of such an event, rather than the crash, bang boom of all the events, and that’s meant you’re in there for the long haul because not only do you care about the characters but you can identify with how terrifying it would be to deal with something so extraordinary.

It will be exciting to see where the story takes us in season three which premieres on 22 August on AppleTV+
