It is not many artists who use a slinky and a blender to herald the arrival of the deluxe version of their next album.
But then not many artists are as delightfully out-of-the-box, and artistically-visionary as Imogen Heap.
Via this series of tweets and the video featured below them, she announced that her album, which is expected to drop later this year, and was released song by song over the last year as Imogen heap recorded them with fan participation, is going to come packaged with all sorts of amazing goodies.
It will feature making of videos, some rather fancy packaging, a slew of deliciously clever, idiosyncratic lush pop, music videos … and who knows maybe even a slinky!
While that sound like an odd thing to reference in an album release announcement, it makes perfect sense if you’re aware that Imogen Heap, always at the forefront of the marriage of technology and music and art, invited her fans to contribute snippets of melody and sounds (including that of a slinky) which she then fashioned into the songs that will make up the album.
Each song was created and released in roughly three month bursts with the eventual promise they would be included in her next album.
As always though, Imogen Heap is going that gigantic step forward and lavishing her fans, with whom she maintains a genuinely close relationship via social media especially Twitter, far more than just the songs, which let’s face it, are a precious treat in and of themselves without any added extras.
I am excited at what this deluxe release is going to look like and can assure Imogen Heap that yes, we very much want to buy one.
And I don’t even care if there’s a slinky attached.
