Big Mistakes is a crime comedy series created, co-written, and executive produced by Dan Levy alongside Rachel Sennott. The show follows two deeply incapable siblings, Nicky (Dan Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega), who inadvertently become entangled in organized crime after a misguided theft intended to help their dying grandmother. The siblings are blackmailed into increasingly dangerous assignments, leading to chaotic and comedic situations as they clumsily navigate the criminal underworld. (courtesy Variety)
I love watching comedies about people in over their heads.
The anxious person in me feels for them, of course, and goodness knows, I would HATE to be in the same position, thank you very much, especially with gangsters threatening me.
But when Dan Levy is one of the creators, writers and actors then I am there with bells on, and I may even answer the phone when it rings when Big Mistakes premieres (watch the trailer and this reference will make WAAAY more sense).
The series was inspired, believe it or not says Entertainment Weekly by Levy’s “completely unfounded fear” of ending up enmeshed in organised crime.
“I don’t know whether it was my algorithm or just the kinds of news that I’ve been drawn to over the years,” he adds. “Most of the time, you can’t really get out once you’re in, and that felt really scary to me, but it also felt really propulsive as a story idea for TV. Throw two characters who ultimately prove themselves to be a liability to the organized crime dynamic, therein lies the comedy.”
Big Mistakes debuts on Netflix on 9 April.
